What HPC Actually Is
What is HPC?
High Performance Computing (HPC) is a cluster of computers working in parallel to solve larger problems faster. An HPC system includes high performance networking to keep all the computers talking to each other, and high performance data storage for all the data and outputs of the system.
How does HPC work?
HPC management software takes the problem being worked on and breaks it into separate pieces that can be processed in parallel across the cluster, and then brought back together to make a unified answer. Key to the function of the cluster is the networking layer that joins all the computers together, and data storage appropriate for the size of the problems and the cluster.
What are the benefits of HPC?
By running calculations simultaneously across dozens, hundreds or even thousands of computers an HPC cluster can solve complex problems quickly. Large multi-variable systems can be simulated and understood. For example, HPC is used for weather prediction.
Key challenges in building HPC:
A HPC cluster is complex system of three components: compute, networking, data storage. And within the compute layer, there are often demands for GPU accelerators as well as traditional CPU processors. Getting the balance right across all three layers, and ensuring throughput of data is key to optimising the performance of a cluster.

Performance and Scale
Powering critical workloads with the speed, resilience, and scalability today’s most demanding applications require. From eResearch workloads to AI training and complex simulations, we deliver the infrastructure to take you beyond limits.
The XENON
Architectual Principle
XENON designs HPC clusters around clear workload requirements, predictable cost models and real-word scaling plans, so your infrastructure remains controllable and economically defensible over time.
Architecture
Blueprints for parallel systems designed around throughput, not convenience.
Infrastructure
High bandwidth networking tuned for maximum computational density.
Data Flows
High-throughput I/O pipelines that keep your compute cores fed and never idle.
Security & Governance
Zero-trust HPC compliance that protects sensitive workloads.
Production Ready
Run massive clusters and simultaneous workloads at sustained petaFLOP scale.
Managed Services
Your HPC clusters, fully managed so your teams ship results, not ops tickets.
